@alisha– Meat is treated with corn-shaped salt, hence the term “corned.” It has nothing to do with corn.
I love bully beef. I’ll eat it with or without potatoes, in a sandwich with pickles, or as corned beef and cabbage. Its just delicious. I used to eat it regularly as a child. Although I haven’t had it in a very long time, I’m currently craving it. British bully beef is the best. I’ve had American corned beef, sometimes referred to in schools as “mystery meat,” but it’s not the same. SteamLouis January 20, 2013.
My dad has an antique bully beef can. It got passed down from my great grandfather. Bully beef from those days doesn’t appear to be very appetizing in pictures I’ve seen.
I doubt the soldiers complained much because I’m sure they were happy to eat. But I couldnt imagine eating this stuff every single day.

I always assumed that “corned” meant that it has corn in it, so I’m surprised that the canned bully beef doesn’t contain any corn. GenevaMech January 31, 2011.
@ Chicada: That recipe for corned beef brisket hash sounds like a wonderful alternative. I am accustomed to eating New England style hash that is seasoned only with salt and pepper and loaded with shredded carrots and potatoes. The next time, I’ll try to make bully beef the Jamaican way, even though I have no idea what ackee is. chicada January 31, 2011.
Bully beef is also the name of a Jamaican dish made with spicy corned beef. While it resembles corned beef hash, it also contains Scotch Bonnet peppers, fried potatoes, allspice, and garlic. In addition to rice, it is occasionally served with eggs or ackee.
