Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground turkey (94% lean)
- 1/2 cup finely diced onion
- 1/3 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 6 hamburger buns
- Toppings of your choice (e.g., guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles)
Instructions
- Combine the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, onion, cilantro, garlic, jalapeño pepper, Worcestershire sauce, salt, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and cheddar cheese. Mix well with your hands or a wooden spoon until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Form the patties: Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape them into patties. Make sure the patties are compact and thick to prevent them from falling apart during cooking.
- Chill the patties: Place the patties on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours. This step helps the patties hold their shape and develop flavor.
- Cook the patties:
- Grilling: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Lightly grease the grates with oil. Place the patties on the grill and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Pan-frying: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon of oil. Carefully place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Assemble the burgers: Place the cooked patties on hamburger buns and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!
Tips
- Adjust the spice level: If you prefer less heat, remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeño pepper before chopping. For a spicier kick, leave the seeds in or add another chopped jalapeño pepper.
- Use fresh ingredients: Fresh herbs and spices will give your burgers the best flavor.
- Don’t overcook the patties: Overcooked turkey can become dry and tough. Cook the patties until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Get creative with toppings: There are endless possibilities when it comes to burger toppings. Get creative and experiment with different combinations to find your favorites.
This jalapeño turkey burger recipe is a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional beef burgers. The combination of flavorful ingredients and juicy texture makes this recipe a surefire hit So fire up the grill, gather your favorite toppings, and enjoy this flavorful and satisfying meal!
Jalapeños: flavor or spice?
Don’t be put off by the inclusion of jalapeños in the ingredients list or title. They are essential to the success of these delicious burgers and add a ton of flavor. A couple of tips:
- remove the seeds and membranes for less heat
- chop the jalapeños really finely
- If you’re still concerned, start with half of a jalapeño (don’t completely eliminate them, though!).
Of course, if you can handle the heat, think about adding twice as many jalapeños and the seeds.
After being grilled, we serve these juicy turkey burgers on buns with lettuce, tomatoes, and occasionally a few extra slices of cheddar cheese. Guacamole is not even optional here.
