1 Experience a Turkish Bath Ritual at a Bodrum Hammam

Get scrubbed at a hammam or Turkish bath in Bodrum.

A Turkish hammam, also known as a hamam, is a unique cultural experience that is well worth adding to your list of things to do in Bodrum, even though it may not be the most typical tourist attraction.

This famous Turkish ritual begins with the bather soaking in a steam room, sauna or pool. A hammam attendant then rinses, vigorously exfoliates and massages your entire body with a foam scrub.

After the scrub, there’s an oil massage, a face mask, and some relaxation time in the tiled hamam while drinking tea or water. The entire process takes 1. 5 to 2 hours.

You shouldn’t expect to fall asleep from this ritual because it’s more of a deep cleansing ritual than a relaxation ritual. Rather, you’ll come away invigorated. Your skin will be glowing, rid of impurities and dead skin, and your muscles fully relaxed.

Bodrum has many hammas, Bitez Hamam (very popular with first-time visitors), Bardakci Hammam (historic), Queen Hamman, and Sensum Spa to name a few.

Related: Several spas in Cyprus also have hammams that are well worth visiting.

Cost of Traditional Turkish Bath at Bitez Hamam: Private sauna, Turkish bath, full body scrub, hair wash, full body massage with soap, face mask, tea and water. 30 Euros or with full body oil massage 55 Euros

One of the major landmarks to see is located on a hilltop overlooking Bodrum and Gumbet Bays.

This area is home to an assortment of stone windmills from the 18th century that faced northwest to capture the brisk coastal winds. These windmills were operational until the 1970s.

Even though the windmills are now little more than ruins, they still add a special touch of atmosphere to the scenery, especially at dawn and dusk.
