I adore throwing Art Bar Parties because, unlike a classroom setting, the birthday child truly feels in charge and assumes a collaborative role with me. When my 6-year-old art student asked if I could attend her birthday celebration and create art with her friends, I nearly cried.
With a curious expression, this particular student said, “TURKEYS?” in response to my question about what she was planning to do for her party. Ummm… YES to the turkeys! My first Thanksgiving turkey craft from cardboard was hatched.

- Cardboard

Instructions:

Cut out the turkey body: Start by drawing a turkey shape on a piece of cardboard. You can freehand it or find a template online. Once you’re happy with the shape, cut it out carefully with scissors.

Tips and Tricks:
- If you want to make your turkey stand up, you can glue a small piece of cardboard to the back of the body as a support.

Supplies for turkey craft:
~ Cardboard cut into turkey shapes
~ Glue gun (for putting turkey together… the kid don’t use it)
~ Cardstock cut into feather shapes
~ White school glue
Step-by-step instructions for turkey craft:
1. For the cardboard turkeys, cut out two shapes in advance: one for the body and another for the head and neck.
2. Using the glue gun, attach the neck to the body by overlapping just a little bit.
3. Set out the cardboard turkeys and all the other supplies on the table. I rarely if ever supply a sample for my art classes. My classes tend to be very open-ended and not as crafty. However, I felt that this time it would be beneficial to provide an example (made by my daughter). Children frequently leave birthday parties, so having a model will save them from having to ask me where to go all the time.

I love how every turkey looks different. My fear with putting out an example is that the kids will feel restricted. But thankfully that didn’t happen. I love these so much!! Definitely a rainbow theme happening. So much yummy color!.
