What is the Youth Turkey Hunt?

The Youth Turkey Hunt is a special event designed to introduce young hunters to the world of turkey hunting This two-day event takes place one weekend before the regular turkey hunting season, giving young hunters a chance to hone their skills and gain experience without competing with seasoned adults.

Who Can Participate?

All locals and visitors who are at least 15 years old are welcome to participate in the Youth Turkey Hunt. Regardless of your level of experience, this event is an excellent way to pick up some tips and have some fun while learning the ropes.

What Do I Need to Participate?

To participate in the Youth Turkey Hunt, you’ll need to meet a few requirements:

  • Hunter Education: All youth hunters must have successfully completed a Hunter Education Program or participate in the Mentored Hunt Program.
  • Licenses and Permits: You’ll need a valid spring turkey license, stamp, and harvest authorization for any period. These can be easily obtained online through Go Wild, the DNR’s license portal, or in person at DNR service centers and license agents.
  • Adult Supervision: An adult 18 years of age or older must accompany the youth hunter. The adult cannot attend more than two youth hunters at one time.

What Can I Hunt?

All Turkey Management Zones are open to wild turkey hunting during the Youth Turkey Hunt, with the exception of state parks and non-quota units. The bag limit is one male or bearded turkey.
