What The Crab is quickly becoming one of the most popular cajun seafood restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. People can’t seem to get enough of their amazing cajun-inspired dishes made with fresh seafood. As a seafood lover myself, I was eager to check out their menu and see what mouth-watering options they had to offer.
I was immediately impressed with the variety of the What The Crab menu. They have something for everyone – from fried seafood entrees to Low Country boils and po’ boys. No matter what you’re craving, you’ll find it on their menu.
A Look at the What The Crab Appetizers
To kick things off What The Crab offers a nice selection of appetizers to choose from. If you want to start your meal with something fried go for the Cajun Onion Petals or the Fried Green Tomatoes. The onion petals are sliced onions dredged in a cajun batter and fried to golden perfection. The green tomatoes provide a nice tangy contrast to the crispy breading.
For seafood appetizers, you can’t go wrong with the Flame Buttered Oysters or the Baked Cajun Parmesan Oysters. They take fresh gulf oysters and bake them with cajun spices, butter, and parmesan for a decadent starter. The calamari is another good choice – they fry up tender rings and serve them with both marinara and cajun remoulade for dipping.
If you’re looking for an appetizer to share, the Raw Half Shell Oysters are a great pick. You get a dozen fresh raw oysters on the half shell alongside cocktail sauce and lemon wedges They also offer add-ons like grilled shrimp, crab meat, or crawfish tails if you want to create your own seafood platter.
Delicious Soups and Salads
In addition to appetizers, What The Crab has several soups and salads on the menu. Their two signature soups are the Corn & Crab Bisque and the Shrimp & Crab Gumbo. The bisque features a creamy base chock full of corn, crab meat, onions, and cajun seasonings. Meanwhile, the gumbo has a rich roux base loaded with shrimp, crab, onions, bell peppers, and spices. Both are hearty, flavorful options for starting your meal.
For salads, the Cajun Shrimp Salad and the Fried Oyster Salad are very popular. The shrimp salad includes chilled grilled shrimp on a bed of mixed greens with tomatoes, egg, avocado, boiled egg, and cajun vinaigrette. The oyster salad swaps the shrimp for fried oysters for a fun twist.
Mouth-Watering Main Courses
Now onto the main event – the entrees! This is where What The Crab really shines. Their seafood boils, fried platters, and po’ boys look amazing and taste even better
The boils allow you to choose your own combo of seafood (shrimp, crawfish, snow crab legs, mussels, etc.) and then it’s boiled in cajun spices. Corn, potatoes, and sausage are cooked right in the boil to soak up all that flavor. It’s served dumpster-style on the table so you can dig right in.
If you prefer your seafood fried, the fried shrimp, catfish, and oyster platters are calling your name. You get to pick two or three side dishes to accompany the heaping mound of lightly breaded and fried seafood. I’d suggest trying the cajun fries, hushpuppies, or fried okra.
Po’ boys are another specialty – crunchy fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, or chicken topped with lettuce, pickles, and remoulade sauce served on a soft French roll. They’re delicious and filling sandwiches, especially when paired with a side like the Cajun pasta salad or crab mac and cheese.
Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth
After polishing off some spicy cajun cuisine, cool off with one of What The Crab’s desserts. The bread pudding is my personal favorite – super moist with a rich rum sauce. But you can’t go wrong with classics like the pecan pie, key lime pie, or triple chocolate cake either. They also have kid-friendly options like cheesecake and brownies.
Whatever you order, make sure to save room for something sweet at the end! It’s the perfect way to finish off a meal.
Specialty Drinks to Complement Your Food
To accompany everything on the menu, What The Crab offers a great selection of specialty drinks. Their Hurricane cocktail is excellent – it’s fruity and tropical but packs quite the punch. They also serve up pina coladas, margaritas, daiquiris, and local beers.
Or you could opt for something non-alcoholic like fresh lemonade, flavored teas, or Coke products. Either way, they have something for every taste so you can find the perfect beverage pairing.
Daily Specials Keep Things Interesting
In addition to the regular menu items, What The Crab has daily specials that change up what’s available. Some examples I saw were $0.35 oyster nights on Wednesdays, all-you-can-eat crawfish on Fridays, and buy-one-get-one free shrimp baskets on Saturdays.
There’s always a chance you’ll visit and they’ll have a unique or limited-time special that you can take advantage of. It’s worth calling ahead to ask what the specials will be for that day to inform your ordering.
Convenient Options for Takeout or Delivery
What I really appreciate about What The Crab is that their entire menu is available for takeout or delivery. You can call ahead or order online to have your food conveniently packaged up ready to take home. This makes it easy to enjoy their amazing cajun seafood even if you don’t feel like dining in.
They are set up on most of the popular delivery apps – Uber Eats, DoorDash, GrubHub, etc. So no matter where you are or what service you prefer, you can get What The Crab’s dishes delivered straight to your door. Definitely take advantage if you find yourself craving their food but don’t want to make the trip.
Something For All Appetites and Occasions
Whether you’re looking for a quick weekday dinner, a fun weekend celebration, or want to cater an event, What The Crab’s menu has you covered. Their seafood-centric options appeal to a wide variety of appetites – from picky eaters to adventurous foodies.
And the casual, laidback atmosphere makes it just as good for a family dinner as a date night out. You really can’t go wrong visiting What The Crab, no matter the occasion. Their delicious food and hospitable service make every meal an enjoyable experience.
Reasonably Priced for the Portions
Considering the fresh seafood and generous portions, I found What The Crab’s prices to be very reasonable. Appetizers range from $7-15, entrees from $10-25, and desserts around $5. For the quality and quantity you get, those prices are more than fair.
Even the seafood boils, which feature over a pound of your chosen seafood, are affordably priced. You can easily feed the whole family without breaking the bank. Value is clearly a priority for them, which I always appreciate as a customer.
What The Crab’s extensive menu offers such a variety of cajun and seafood options, there’s truly something tempting for every palate. From fried platters to po’ boys to Low Country boils, they have all their bases covered. I’m already dreaming about going back to try more of their appetizers and entrees soon.
So if you’re seeking out delicious cajun fare in the DFW area, I can’t recommend checking out What The Crab enough. One bite of their amazing food and welcoming atmosphere and you’ll be hooked too!
