This slow cooker recipe uses a few basic ingredients, including patience, to create the most flavorful (yet ridiculously simple) pot roast ever. Carrots add the perfect touch. Originally published January 18, 2018.
I don’t know about you guys, but this January and all the stupid kale diets that go along with it made me kind of want to just skip it. I’m having some serious December withdrawals. I have a vague feeling that December dumped me and I wasn’t ready for it. My face is breaking out, I’m dying my hair, and all I want right now is Ben and Jerry’s. Come on, December. We were so good together.
I usually reach my diet’s peak around two weeks into the new year, so I’m coming at you with some comfort food to numb the holiday season. POT ROAST AND MASHED POTATOES FOREVER.
A beef chuck roast called a pot roast has been slowly braised with flavorful seasonings like garlic and onions. (You need a new grandma if your grandmother hasn’t made this for you at least once. This is the pinnacle of American comfort food, especially when paired with creamy mashed potatoes. ).
You can be a great pot roast maker, you really can be. Do you struggle with making pot roast as much as I used to? All you need is some perseverance and an onion soup mix packet. (Those onion soup packets are pretty magical. Additionally, I use them to prepare these three-ingredient roasted potatoes with crunchy onions. So good. ).
How long to cook roast in crock pot per pound
The size and shape of your roast, how hot your slow cooker gets, and how consistently its temperature is will all affect the precise cooking times.
See the section below for information on how to determine when your roast is cooked, but use the guide below to estimate the slow cooker beef roast cooking times.
How Crockpots Work
Now, some of these appliances are quite advanced.
Simply place the ingredient you’re cooking inside the pot, select what it is (pork roast, for example), and the appliance will weigh it and calculate the cooking time for you. Incredible!.
Unfortunately, you pay a pretty penny for those appliances. Simpler appliances are less expensive and perform just as well. There will probably be four temperature settings on the most basic crockpot: low, medium, high, and warming.
Naturally, the cooking time will be impacted by these temperatures, particularly for meats. After you select the temperature, the crockpot’s heating elements begin to operate. The cooking liquid absorbs the heat before it is transferred to the ingredients.
The appliance keeps its temperature constant until you change it, or for more sophisticated models, it does so automatically after a predetermined amount of time.
Slow cooker roast beef cooking times
The muscle fibers in a beef roast go through stages of toughness, tenderness, and toughness again as it cooks. Therefore, if you want beef that is fork-tender, timing can be extremely important.
The connective tissues in beef that give it its toughness slowly decompose into gelatin as it cooks, and the fat melts into the meat to make it juicy and succulent.
But if a roast is overcooked, the fat and gelatin will continue to seep through the meat (due to the pull of gravity) and will eventually flow out of the meat joint and into the liquid of the slow cooker.
The meat fibers become dried out and tough once more as a result.
