Turkey burgers are one of those foods that I always want to like but never quite get around to; they’re typically flavorless and dry. This recipe’s flavor has been amplified, and the way it’s cooked results in burgers with the perfect outside crust and a juicy, but fully cooked, center.
To say that Im in love with these Southwestern Turkey Burgers is an understatement. I always try to keep some frozen in case I need a quick lunch and don’t feel like cooking!
Of course! Since the ground beef’s fat will keep them juicy, I would omit the egg.
Absolutely! I will go over my suggestions for cooking times in various appliances later in the article.
Yes, you can replace the seasonings I’ve used in this recipe with any other seasonings if you’d prefer. To give ground turkey more moisture and, in my opinion, a better texture, I do recommend adding some sort of vegetable. Ill go over some options below.
Of course! Simply double or triple the ingredients and make up as many turkey burgers as you want. Consider that you might not need three eggs if you are making a triple batch, so adjust the wetness of the mixture accordingly.
Yes, you can freeze them either cooked or raw. Directions for both are in the post below.

Preparation Time: 10 minutesCook Time: 10 minutesChilling Time: 30 minutesTotal Time: 50 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1.25 pounds ground turkey
- 2 tablespoons finely diced onion
- 2 tablespoons finely diced green pepper
- 2 tablespoons finely diced red pepper
- ¼ cup frozen or canned corn (drained)
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon chipotle powder
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, finely diced onion, green and red peppers, corn, egg, and seasonings. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
- Form patties: Form 6 burger patties by placing 1/6 of the mixture between two sheets of parchment (see the original post for details) and gently press into a burger shape.
- Refrigerate: Leave the burger patties on the parchment, but remove the top layer of parchment and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the Ninja Foodi Grill: Preheat the Ninja Foodi Grill on the max grill setting with the basket in. If you are using a different air fryer or grill, preheat at the maximum temperature setting for a full 10 minutes.
- Air Crisp: Place the burgers in the hot basket (only 4 fit at a time with the Ninja Foodi grill) and Air Crisp (or Air Fry) at the hottest temperature (450°F/230°C in the NF Indoor Grill) for 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat and continue cooking: Reduce the temperature to 350°F/175°C and air crisp another 5-7 minutes.
- Check temperature: Check the temp to make sure the internal temperature is 165°F/74°C.
- Rest and serve: Remove the burgers and let them rest for a few minutes. Serve over a salad or on a bun. Enjoy!
Additional Tips:
- For a spicier burger: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mix.
- For a smoky flavor: Add a teaspoon of smoked paprika to the mix.
- For a cheeseburger: Add a slice of your favorite cheese to the burger during the last few minutes of cooking.
- For a veggie burger: Substitute the ground turkey with a plant-based ground meat alternative.

Tips for Making Air Fryer Turkey Burgers
Although the recipe and cooking technique are fairly straightforward, I did learn some useful tips along the way, and I’m sharing them all with you!
Mushroom & Swiss Turkey Burgers
I LOVE mushrooms and if you do too, you might like this variation. Instead of the green and red peppers, add about ¼ cup diced mushrooms, ½ Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 egg, ¼ teaspoon sea salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper.
Make up the turkey burgers and cook per recipe. During the last few minutes of cooking, add on a slice of Swiss Cheese.
Try this the next time you’re craving a classic burger but would rather use turkey.
Mix and proceed with the recipe using one egg, 1/4 cup ground turkey, 1/2 teaspoon each sea salt and black pepper, and 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce.
