What is Flank Steak
A beef cut called a “flank steak” comes from the cow’s abdomen. Due to its leanness and slightly increased toughness, this meat cut is typically more affordable. To make flank steak more tender to eat, it is frequently marinated or thinly sliced. It is frequently a less expensive cut of meat because it is a tougher cut. It is common to find it in most grocery stores.
For this recipe youll need to butterfly a flank steak. What this means is that you must almost completely cut the flank steak in half. A butterflied flank steak shouldn’t be cut all the way through because it will unfold like opening a book.
What does Florentine mean?
Florentine refers to the Italian region of Florence and its regional culinary traditions. In American cuisine, spinach and cheese are frequently found in Florentine-style dishes. To name a few, Florentine cuisine frequently features chicken, pasta, and eggs. Steak florentine typically refers to a steak dish that includes melted cheese and sautéed spinach. This recipe for Flank Steak Pinwheels involves stuffing the meat with a mixture of spinach and provolone cheese.
How to prepare Flank Steak Pinwheels
To make pinwheels out of flank steak, butterfly it by cutting it thinly across the grain. Season with salt and pepper on both sides. Spread the ingredients evenly over the steak. To prevent it from unraveling, roll the steak up from the bottom and tie it off with kitchen twine. Secure roll with toothpicks 2 inches apart. Slice pinwheels and prepare to cook.
How to cook pinwheels in the oven
To help the crust form, pinwheels should be cooked on a grill or in a skillet. Due to this, the flavor is preserved, and the texture is delicious. However, you should put pinwheels on a cast iron or carbon steel skillet if you only want to cook them in the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees, or until doneness is desired.
