I’ve previously mentioned that I typically purchase ground beef with a lean-to-fat ratio of 85/15, or 85 percent lean and 15 percent fat. This combination, in my opinion, makes for an outstanding dining experience overall. But I also buy based on price. Therefore, if ground beef in the 80/20 or 70/30 ratio is on sale and I think the price difference is worthwhile, I’ll put that in my cart.
The drawback is that I find those lean-to-fat ratios to be a little too fatty. Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe that flavor is enhanced by fat. But let’s face it – it’s also grease. And that’s just too much grease for me.
The good news is that when I simply can’t resist the sale, there are a few techniques I’ve discovered to make ground beef leaner. The better news is that each method is simple. None of them are time consuming. Additionally, they are all excellent choices if you already purchased lean 90/10 ground beef but would like it even leaner. So, without further ado, I give you….
