Jon Arbuckle calls Liz Wilson while he’s in the refrigerator and says he’s happy she’s coming for Thanksgiving dinner, but he warns her that Garfield’s appetite will make him late. Jon reveals to her that he won a turkey in a raffle, and is waiting for its deliverance. Soon, the local butcher, Mr. When Gizzard brings it to Jon, he’s shocked to see that the turkey is still alive and asks Gizzard to return it. Gizzard refuses to do so, and tells Jon that the bird is now Jons problem.
Though Jon tells Garfield that they are having lasagna instead of turkey because he does not have the heart to kill the bird and doubts Garfield does either, Garfield is excited about the turkey. The turkey’s actions soon cause Garfield and Jon to become enraged, and a chase ensues that ends with one of the couches being ripped open to reveal the bird’s feathers. Before Jon tries to catch the turkey to bring back to Mr., Garfield discovers that the bird is allergic to feathers. Gizzard. Garfield finds a turkey costume in his costume box in the basement, and he tricks the bird into following him to Jon, who is holding a sack.
After Jon mistakenly catches Garfield, he finally catches the turkey and brings it back to Mr. Gizzard, as Jon feels they cannot keep the bird around the house. Jon assumes Mr. Gizzard will find the turkey a new home, but finds out that Gizzard plans to butcher it. Jon and Odie feel bad for the bird, as does Garfield, who decides to save it.
