Steps to Make It

What Does Consommé Mean?
When this flavorful preparation was first created hundreds of years ago, the word consommé, which is French for “completed,” meant a process rather than the food itself. When a clear and flavorful liquid could be obtained after simmering a broth with vegetables and aromatics, the process was complete. The consommé and broth could be distinguished by their concentrated and rich flavors. Indicators of the wealth and status of the people eating it included the complicated preparation process and the large number of ingredients required. As a result, many traditional recipes include the names of the people and locations where these delectable dishes were prepared and consumed.
