What Cut Of Beef For Beef And Broccoli?

Beef and Broccoli is a quick 30-minute meal that only requires one pan and is packed with fresh broccoli, tender beef that is packed with nutrients, and the best stir fry sauce. We love this over steamy white rice.

Beef and Broccoli Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak, very thinly sliced into bite-sized strips
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil , (or vegetable oil), divided
  • 1 lb broccoli, (cut into 6 cups of florets)
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds, optional garnish

Stir Fry Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated (loosely packed)
  • 2 tsp garlic, grated (from 3 cloves)
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 6 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce, (or GF Tamari)
  • 3 Tbsp packed light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • To ensure that the white rice is ready when the stir fry is finished, begin cooking it first. Cover and freeze steak 30 minutes for easier slicing.
  • In a bowl, combine all the ingredients for the stir-fry sauce, stir to completely dissolve the sugar, and set aside.
  • 1 tablespoon of oil and a large skillet on a medium heat. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring or tossing frequently, until the broccoli is bright green and crisp-tender. Remove from the pan. The broccoli will steam cook if you add 2 tablespoons of water before covering it with the lid for softer broccoli.
  • Increase heat to high heat and add 1 Tbsp oil. Add the beef and cook it in a single layer for 2 minutes on each side, or until just done. Quickly pull out a piece to test for doneness.
  • Reduce heat to medium or low, add the sauce, and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. It will thicken. Add broccoli and stir to combine. If you want to thin the sauce, stir in 1-2 Tbsp water. Serve over white rice.
