Salmon is one of the most popular and nutritious fish you can buy. Rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, salmon delivers heart-healthy fats and an array of vitamins and minerals in each serving. However, salmon can also be quite pricey, especially for premium wild-caught varieties.
Luckily, several major retailers offer salmon sales periodically throughout the year. Being strategic about when and where you buy salmon can help you take advantage of the best deals and discounts. Here’s a look at some of the top stores that frequently have salmon on sale, and tips for finding the best bargains.
Watch for Salmon Sales at Warehouse Clubs
When salmon is on sale, warehouse clubs like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale are great places to buy it. Here are some things to know:
-
Costco in particular is known for carrying high quality wild salmon like sockeye coho and king at prices below traditional grocers.
-
Their Kirkland Signature house brand wild salmon often goes on sale at discounts of $2-4 per pound.
-
Stock up when you see wild salmon discounted to under $9/lb compared to the usual $12-15/lb
-
There are also sales on frozen and canned salmon all the time, sometimes for up to 25% off.
-
Check warehouses once a week because regular sales only last a few days and the best prices are only good for a limited time.
-
Consider splitting bulk pack sizes with friends or freezing extra portions if the minimum quantity is more than you need.
Watch for Grocery Store Deals
Grocery chains like Kroger, Safeway and Albertsons also discount salmon frequently:
-
Check newspaper inserts and online flyers for weekly promotions on fresh salmon.
-
Farm-raised salmon goes on sale more often than wild, $5-6/lb versus $8-12/lb.
-
Wild salmon like sockeye can go on sale in peak Alaska fishing season from June-September for $2-3 less per pound.
-
Canned and frozen salmon is often listed at 25% off or Buy One Get One Free promotions.
-
Sign up for loyalty programs and apps to get personalized deals and e-coupons for salmon.
-
High volume stores and those in competitive areas tend to offer better promotions than smaller locations.
Buy Direct from Fishing Companies
Purchasing salmon directly from the source can offer big savings:
-
Check websites of suppliers like Wild Alaskan Salmon and Seafood Co., Trident Seafoods, and Ocean Beauty for deals.
-
Buying direct cuts out retailer markups, with prices up to 30% less than stores.
-
Look for promotions like free shipping, discounts for new customers, and rewards programs.
-
Bulk options like monthly salmon boxes offer better value, though require freezing what you don’t use immediately.
-
Peak season and holiday sales can take 5-15% or more off costs. Time orders right and stock up.
Check Smaller Specialty Shops
Don’t overlook independent fish markets and specialty food stores:
-
Local fishmongers and butcher shops often have competitively priced wild salmon.
-
They may run rotating weekly sales, offer loyalty club benefits, or give discounts for buying in bulk quantities.
-
Sign up for email newsletters and check social media for pop-up deals and promotions.
-
Specialty grocers like Trader Joe’s, Fresh Market and Earth Fare also discount salmon occasionally.
-
Their offered varieties are limited but can deliver good value during sales.
Use Coupons and Cashback When Available
Don’t forget about these final savings strategies:
-
Check sites like Groupon and livingSocial for periodic coupons that take $5-10 off salmon purchases.
-
Use cashback apps like Ibotta, Checkout51, and Shopkick to earn bonus rebates on top of sale prices.
-
Combining a coupon code with an existing store sale can compound savings.
-
Refer friends to the retailer’s website for extra promo codes applicable to salmon.
Finding salmon deals does require a bit of strategizing and patience. But buying it on sale ensures you can enjoy all the nutritional benefits regularly, without breaking the bank. Follow these tips and you’ll be ready to take advantage of the next big salmon promotion that comes along!

This review is for the purchase of Coho salmon. I thought I would never eat fish or seafood again because I can’t stand the smell of ammonia that comes from it. I bought Faroe Island salmon from QVC. The first order didn’t smell like fish at all, but the second order was not what I wanted. As I read the reviews for this QVC item, I came across one that talked about the harmful chemicals in the water and how they bought their salmon from Wild Alaska Salmon and Seafood. I chose to give it a try and am definitely glad I did! I’m so happy that after more than FIFTY YEARS, I am now eating and enjoying salmon! I really hope this doesn’t change because I know how good it is for my health. It costs a lot, but I’m willing to pay for good food, even if it means not buying something else. If you are sensitive to the odor of fish/salmon, give them a try.

I love their quality fish , conveniently portion packaged and with no bones/spine. As strange as it may seem, I can’t find wild-caught salmon in stores now that I live in the suburbs. This makes it easy, and I know I’m getting a good product.

We tried King and Sockeye salmon from Alaska for the first time. My wife said, “This is the best salmon I’ve ever had.” ” Were big salmon eaters and due to her blindness, her taste buds are acute. We also had the smoked fish. At first, I thought it was really cheap for how much it was, but it was so rich and tasty that more would have been too much.
