How do you cook jackfruit (with the same texture of BBQ pork!)?
I am confident that we have found the best jackfruit cooking method after years of experimentation. It has the ideal texture and the most flavor possible without requiring you to spend all day in the kitchen.
As simple as can be. Drain your jackfruit and add it into a bowl. Break it up into shreds that resemble pulled pork or shredded chicken using your hands.
How to Prepare Jackfruit for Cooking
I’ve been making jackfruit for years and really believe that these prep tips are essential in creating the best way to prepare jackfruit to use for jackfruit recipes. The boiling method creates a nice stringy texture and helps to remove any tinned or metallic taste that canned jackfruit (and other canned goods) can typically have.
If you’ve tried jackfruit before and don’t think you like it, I implore you to try it this way first before giving up on it. I’ve prepared jackfruit this way and compared it to jackfruit I’ve prepared in other ways, and there is a noticeable difference in the overall flavor.
Place the jackfruit in a large pan and cover with water after draining it from the cans. I already mentioned that you should prepare more than one can of jackfruit for quick meal preparation. Depending on who I’m serving and how much of a freezer stash I already have, I usually do 6–10 cans at a time.
For 45 minutes, cook the jackfruit after bringing the water to a boil.
What Is the Nutritional Value of Jackfruit?
For good reasons, a lot of people are making grandiose claims about how jackfruit might revolutionize the food industry. Especially when compared to meat, it is reasonably priced—a can of organic jackfruit costs about $2. 99 in my stores. Additionally useful and a good source of calcium, iron, and potassium is jackfruit.
The drawback, in my opinion, is that jackfruit only has about 1 to 2 grams of protein, so even though I enjoy using it occasionally in the kitchen, I wouldn’t choose it as a regular main dish unless I was serving it with something else that had some protein, like beans or tofu.
