January, February and March are fairly cold months in Turkey, although temperatures do warm up by March. Snow is not uncommon in January and even February, especially in the interior around Cappadocia. Due to the low temperatures, this is a quiet time of year to visit Turkey; therefore, you’ll probably have the sites to yourself.

Springtime is a great time to visit the many historic ruin sites across the country because of the mild weather. Peak tulip season occurs in April, when Istanbul’s parks and gardens are a riot of color. However, April can also bring heavy rains. The best time to visit Turkey is right now, so hotel prices in places like Istanbul and Cappadocia are at their highest. However, many of the hotels along the Turquoise Coast are still closed.

Although the land and sea remain warm, September’s weather begins the month still hot and stays that way until the middle of the month. This results in weather that is similar to spring, but with fewer days. Again, this is a great time to visit the Turquoise Coast and explore the cities and historical sites because there are less tourists and the prices are lower. While most hotels in the Mediterranean region close by mid-October, more expensive boutique hotels can be found in Istanbul and Cappadocia.
