What to Use Ammonia Cleaner For
Ammonia works well to remove tough baked-on food grime from surfaces, glass, fabrics, and other items. It is an inexpensive cleaner compared to brand-name cleaners.
Surface cleaner: Commonly used as a surface cleaner for tubs, sinks, toilets, countertops, and tiles
Breaks down oils and stains: Can cut through grime or stains from animal fats, vegetable oils, cooking grease, and wine stains on surfaces, fabrics, upholstery, and carpets
Glass cleaner: Evaporates quickly; avoids streaking when cleaning windows, mirrors, and crystal
Heavy-duty cleaning power: One of many methods used to clean microwaves and electric ovens; loosens caked-on food particles
Jewelry cleaner: Jewelry cleaning soak good for gold, silver, platinum, or diamond jewelry (not safe for pearls or other gemstones)
Neglected stove top grates: If your grates have seen better days, put them in a large contractors trash bag, dump in 2-3 cups of ammonia, tie it up tight, and leave it to sit overnight. The fumes from the ammonia will breakdown all the fats and burnt on food on the grates. Remove the grates and wash them down with water and dish soap to remove the ammonia residue and smell.
Step by step instructions to clean an oven with ammonia
Ammonia can be very beneficial for removing grease and grime from an oven. Follow these step by step instructions:
Take 2 cups of ammonia and pour them in a small bowl, set it inside your oven, and close the door. Let it stay inside overnight, allowing the ammonia fumes to loosen the dirt and grease inside.
In the morning, remove all the oven racks. Fill your sink with warm water, and pour ¼ cup of ammonia and 5 squirts of dish soap in it. Let the racks soaked in hot water for 30 minutes, while you clean the interior walls of the oven.
Wipe out the inside of the oven with a rag soaked in ammonia. Try to remove as much grease and residue as possible without the need to scrub
If there are any stubborn burnt foods inside the oven, soak a rag in pure ammonia and let it stay over it for 30 minutes. After that, the residue will loosen, and you will be easily able to wipe it clean. If it still leaves a stain, you can scrub it off with a soft brush
Now, dampen a rag with water, and wipe out the residue and also the ammonia from the interior of the oven.
Use a dish scrubber to scrub off the oven racks you have soaked in the sink. As they have soaked enough, the residue will wipe off quite easily and quickly.
Now that you are aware of how to use ammonia to clean an oven, you should also be aware of some guidelines and safety precautions. The most crucial piece of advice is never to combine ammonia with any bleach-based cleaner. These two products can combine to create dangerous gases that could harm everyone.
