Let’s face it: Realizing that you forgot to thaw the meat is typically the hardest part of dinner. I had such wonderful plans and ideas for how delicious dinner would be, only to find out that I still had a frozen block of ground beef in the freezer.
This is a great recipe for busy days and it’s a convenient way to quickly cook frozen meat. But the night can be saved with these simple instructions on how to cook frozen ground beef in the instant pot or other pressure cookers with only 2 ingredients, one of which is just water.
Feel free to use the cooked meat to make other delectable dishes like sloppy joes, tacos, quesadillas, or a quick chili after it has been cooked using the saute function to brown the beef with some taco seasoning.

How to cook ground beef in the Instant Pot?

- Add water: Fill the inner pot with about a cup of water first. Then, add the trivet.
- Place the frozen beef on the trivet and cover it to cook it. For one pound of beef, cook at HIGH pressure for about 20 minutes; for two pounds, cook at HIGH pressure for 23 minutes. After that, followed by 5 minutes natural pressure release. Next, do a quick pressure release for the remaining pressure.
- When the meat is finished cooking, open the lid, remove it to a bowl, crumble it with a fork, and season with salt and pepper. Remove the liquid from the inner pot, clean it, and re-add it if the meat isn’t fully cooked. Add the crumbled beef to the pot, select saute, and then add one tablespoon of oil. Continue to break it and cook it with a wooden spoon until it is browned and cooked through.
- Serve: Enjoy it over tacos, or rice. Use your preferred pasta sauce as an alternative and serve it with spaghetti.

How does the beef taste after cooking it in the Pressure Cooker?
I like to add some spices after crumbling it to give the beef more flavor. It tastes exactly like something you would prepare on a stove. After crumbling the beef, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of beef broth or chicken broth if you think it’s a little too fry.
It tastes absolutely amazing. I enjoy adding pepper flakes, taco seasoning, and about 1 tablespoon of beef broth to my crumbled beef. After mixing well, you get some delicious taco beef.

- Cool: First, let the cooked ground meat fully cool.
- Refrigerate: Place it in an airtight container after that and keep it there for up to 3–4 days.
- We do not advise freezing it once more because it has already been frozen and cooked under pressure. For up to three months, simply place it in a freezer-safe airtight container or freezer bag if you used it to make pasta sauce.
- When ready to use, thaw the mixture ahead of time by placing it in the refrigerator for at least one night.
- Reheat: To reheat cooked ground beef, either add it to a skillet with some broth for moisture or zap it in the microwave for a couple of seconds.

How To Cook Frozen Ground Beef In The Instant Pot
- ▢ 2 pounds ground beef
- ▢ 1 cup water
- ▢ Salt and Pepper
- ▢ Taco seasoning (optional)
- Insert a steam basket or trivet inside the pressure cooker pot.
- Add one cup of water or as much liquid as your pressure cooker requires. I used a 6 quarts pressure cooker.
- Place the frozen ground beef on top of the trivet without breaking it up. Break longer pieces in half if they don’t fit so you can put them on the trivet.
- Place the lid, secure it, and make sure the sealing valve is closed.
- 20 minutes for 1 lb and 23 minutes for 2 lbs of meat under high pressure.
- When the program is finished, perform a 5-minute Natural Pressure Release and then open the valve to let the remaining pressure out.
- Take the temperature of your meat using an instant-read kitchen thermometer; it should be between 160 and 165 degrees.
- If the meat is still undercooked, test it by poking the center; if so, transfer it to a bowl; in the meantime, discard the liquid from the inner pot.
- Choose the sauté setting, add a tablespoon of oil when it’s hot, then add the beef and break it up with a wooden spoon. Cook the beef until it’s done.
