I’ve eaten my fair share of green beans because I spent the majority of my formative years in the South. I used to simply open a can of green beans as a child and eat them cold because I was so in love with them.
Truthfully, they’re one of my favorite vegetables.
Growing up, I frequently went to church potlucks where green beans were always served.
Green bean casserole, fresh green beans sauteed in garlic and olive oil, and slow-cooked southern-style green beans were some of the frequently available variations, all of which were salty and delicious. Yummmmm.
If you are unfamiliar with southern style beans, they are somewhat akin to what you would expect to find at a good barbecue restaurant: extremely tender beans cooked slowly, typically with bacon or ham, onions, and garlic
Optional – Sauté Green Beans and Garlic
Remove the hot water and towel dry the inner pot.
To warm up your Instant Pot, press the “Saute” button and then the “Sauté More” button.
It’ll switch to “ON” on the screen. Wait until it says “HOT” on the screen.
Put 1 tbsp (15ml) of olive oil or peanut oil in the inner pot of the Instant Pot. Make sure you cover the whole bottom with oil.
Garlic cloves should be added to the Instant Pot and sautéed for about 30 seconds. Don’t let the garlic burn.
Green beans should be added to the Instant Pot and sauteed for 30 seconds.
Season the fresh green beans with 1 tablespoon of fish sauce, they go great with fish sauce. Fish sauce, 5 to 2 teaspoons, and salt, to taste, in that order. Then, saute for another 30 seconds.
