When you should NOT brine or inject the turkey

The turkey doesn’t need to be brined or given any injections if it is Kosher. As part of the kosher procedure, pre-brineing is already done on kosher turkey.

PROs of the Char-Broil Big Easy Oil-Less Turkey Fryer

The device, an infrared fryer, is powered by a propane tank; your barbecue grill’s tank will do just fine.

In order for the turkey to cook evenly, the 16,000 BTU burner generates heat that circulates in the chamber around the bird. Fair enough, technically speaking, this isn’t “deep frying” a turkey, but the end result is nearly identical: moist, juicy meat (even the breast!) and crispy skin that can’t be achieved in the oven.

Here’s what we like about the Char-Broil Big Easy:

  • No oil needed. Previously, when deep-frying a turkey, not only did we have to buy 5 gallons of cooking oil, but we needed to discard of 5 gallons of used cooking oil afterwards. No oil is needed with the Char-Broil.
  • Compared to oven-roasting, using the Big Easy saves us so much time. Oven: 4 hours Big Easy: 2 hours (10 minutes per pound).
  • Fast heat up and cool down time: 60 seconds to heat up and the machine is already cool by the time dinner is over. In contrast to deep-frying with oil, you’d have to wait several hours for the oil to cool down completely.
  • Drippings are collected in a small container. With deep-frying in oil, no drippings.
  • Safe to use – No worries about tipping over or oil splattering (which has happened to us!)
  • Relatively inexpensive, worth the $99 investment for perfect deep fried turkey without oil, every year.

How to cook a turkey in an oil less fryer?

Deep-fried turkey cook times are typically calculated by chefs at a rate of three minutes per pound plus five minutes. For example, if youre deep frying a 15 lb. turkey, cook it for 50 minutes.

Remember that larger turkeys require more time to cook, which could result in an undercooked interior and a burned exterior. Therefore, if you’re frying a large turkey, we advise cutting it into pieces and frying each one separately.

Set the oil temperature for deep frying a turkey to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
