How to make air fryer catfish nuggets
This recipe only calls for two ingredients: coating mix and catfish. Lets see what else do we need to do:
Are catfish nuggets good for you
Like most white fish catfish is low in calories. Because they are primarily made from catfish belly trimmings, nuggets are not as low in fat as the whole fish. But its a healthy fat so don’t worry.
Additionally, catfish is a rich source of protein and vitamins B12, selenium, and Omega-3.
This recipe is flexible. You can absolutely use another fish. Slice it into small pieces, coat it with your preferred dry fish fry seasoning, and air fry it.
Salmon will work amazing here. It has the ideal amount of fat to create the ideal nugget.
You can see a picture of the seasoning blend I used below. When I discovered a fish fry mix designed specifically for an air fryer, I was surprised.
The distinction is that this mixture already contains oil, so you don’t need to cook the nuggets with oil spray. You could, if you so choose, but it is not necessary.
Catfish nuggets cooked in an air fryer have a deep-fried appearance. They taste the same to me as well, but they’re much, much healthier.
Additionally, if I’m cooking catfish fillets for a kid’s lunch, I prefer to cook nuggets instead. Finger food is always better for little eaters.
If you haven’t already noticed, I also baked a whole catfish, and it was absolutely delicious!
Gather your ingredients to make catfish nuggets
You’ll need plenty of canola oil (or another good frying oil) for frying, about 2 pounds of catfish nuggets (you can buy them pre-cut or chop larger pieces of fish to size), eggs, milk, cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper for seasoning, as well as lemon wedges for serving. “This will work for other types of fish as well,” says Musgrave, if you don’t have or like catfish.
