What Do Yam Leaves Taste Like?
Sweet yam leaves have a taste similar to spinach, but after eating, avoid leaving a film on your teeth. It goes without saying that whenever I see sweet yam leaves at the Asian market, I immediately grab them and add some ginger, garlic, and Shaoxing wine!
Putting the academic discussion aside, it is simple to prepare sweet yam leaves. If not, I probably wouldn’t be quite as thrilled about the idea of eating them frequently. In addition to this straightforward stir-fried version, you can also use raw garlic and ginger in salads and soups. How great is that?.
Pinch off each leaf, including the stem, from the main stalk and any other tender parts of your yam or sweet potato leaves. Before cooking, thoroughly wash and rinse a few times, then set aside to drain any excess water.
Heat the oil in a wok over medium heat. Cook for about a minute after adding the garlic and ginger.
Then increase the heat to high and incorporate the sweet yam leaves.
Sesame oil, Shaoxing wine (optional), freshly ground white pepper, water, salt (to taste), and a dash of sugar are stirred in. Cook with stirring for a few minutes, or until all the leaves have wilted.
Serve your healthy stir fried yam leaves immediately.
