It’s Turkey Thyme!!!
Initially, I was quite anxious about handling, cleaning, and cooking a turkey because there are so many different methods! I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds cooking Thanksgiving turkey to be a very daunting task. I overcame my fear and, I have to admit, found a fairly simple way to ensure that every turkey is perfect every time. Simple steps that result in the most delicious turkey I’ve had.
I begin with my go-to ingredients, melted butter, lemon, and thyme, which will perfectly dress this turkey. To stuff the turkey with as much flavor as possible, use ingredients like garlic, thyme, lemon, and sweet or yellow onions.
Important Tips for Cooking Your Turkey
1. Invest in a roasting pan with rack and a digital thermometer (I like the OXO ® Digital Instant Read Thermometer)
2. Take a deep breath and remember you have the internet and YouTube videos to help whenever you get stuck! (YouTube is how I learned to properly tie the legs and tuck the wings, its so simple and easy like tying your shoes once you know you know, but I needed a visual first.)
3. I prefer to buy pre brined turkeys(brined turkeys allow for optimal juiciness) allowing me one less step in the process. My favorite turkeys are Trader Joe’s fresh pre brined All Natural Turkeys, they only have them for a limited time during the holiday season so don’t wait till last minute!!!
4. Gather all of your ingredients before starting to prepare the turkey. If needed, sip a glass of wine, turn on your favorite tunes, and relax. Most importantly, keep things simple and avoid making the process too complicated.
5. Internal temp needs to be 165F for safe consumption
6. Towards the end of cooking, turkey legs and/or breast tend to brown excessively; these parts should be lightly covered with foil.
