It was a warm summer night and me and my friends were hanging out looking for something fun to do The clock struck 3am and we were feeling a bit loopy and adventurous Out of nowhere, my buddy Jake exclaimed “Dudes, let’s go look for some beans!” An odd suggestion, sure, but we were down for anything at that hour. What followed was a wild late night quest to locate some beans and the crazy antics that ensued.
Rallying the Crew of Bean Hunters
Once Jake mentioned searching for beans, we were intrigued. I called up our other friends James Pete and Trevor to rally them for this impromptu mission. They were confused at first but also bored and up for shenanigans. Soon, me and the four boys were piled into James’ car, scanning Google Maps to identify potential bean hotspots across town.
We decided our first stop would be the 24-hour Walmart on the edge of the city. Surely they’d have beans somewhere within the massive store and being open all night, we could search freely. The bean hunt was on!
Scouring the Walmart for Beans
We rolled up to the brightly lit Walmart, the only activity in the empty parking lot at that hour. Entering the store, the lights and muzak created an eerie atmosphere. We went aisle by aisle, searching for beans and goofing off along the way.
In the cereal section, Pete dumped all the Cocoa Puffs on the floor to sift for stray beans. Near the pet section, Trevor tried barking secret bean-finding incantations. By the pharmacy, I boarded Jake’s shoulders to search the top shelves, nearly knocking over a display. Our late night delirium was in full effect!
Finally, in the canned goods aisle we struck bean gold! Rows of canned pinto, kidney, baked, and refried beans lined the shelves. We debated the ideal bean vessel and settled on few cans of chili beans to take back for consumption. The first stop on our bean quest was a success!
Seeking More Beans at the Gas Station
Our next stop was the 24-hour gas station on the way back to my house. We knew they had hot dogs rolling on those metal grills all night and what goes better with hot dogs than chili and beans?
The bleary eyed clerk watched as me and the boys raided the food counter, buying up hot dogs and every canned bean option they had. Pete even tried asking if they had any raw beans in the back room that we could just take and cook up. No such luck but we had scored more beans!
Trevor purchased a roast beef sandwich to-go too. As we left, he raised it in the air and announced “I dub this the bean seeking sandwich!” Our energy was high as we neared the end of our late night adventure.
Refueling at Home with Our Found Beans
Back at my house, we spread out our haul of beans and hot dogs for an impromptu 3am feast. As we heated up our bounty, we recounted our favorite moments from the evening’s escapades. Trying to bark secret bean chants at Walmart topped the list as well as racing shopping carts like bumper cars.
We sat on the living room floor with our chili bean dogs, reminiscing about past adventures and new ones to come. As the sun started rising, we realized just how late it had gotten. The bean seeking mission had been a success! Satisfied with our finds, me and the tired but happy crew of boys called it a night after one unforgettable early morning.
The Next Day: Embracing Our Goofball Adventures
The next morning, me and my friends woke up and exchanged that smile and head shake people give after a particularly memorable night. While searching for beans at 3am had no rational behind it, that was what made it so fun.
As we nursed our morning coffees and snacked on leftover beans, we felt grateful for those kinds of silly, youthful adventures that formed lasting memories. We made a pact to stay open to late night missions as unplanned and goofy as the bean hunt. After all, we never knew when the urge for a kernel would strike again!
