Refrigerator Water Line Leak
A faulty or loose water line may be to blame for the water leak coming from behind your Whirlpool refrigerator. The refrigerator receives water and/or ice from your home’s water supply via this flexible plastic line. The fittings where the line connects to your home supply are frequently where Whirlpool refrigerator line leaks happen. The line itself may also kink, resulting in cracks that let water in.
Examine the line and tighten any loose fittings you find that may be leaking by moving the refrigerator away from the wall. While a kinked water line can be gently straightened, it must be replaced if the kink resulted in a hole or crack.
Clogged Defrost Drain
A clogged defrost drain may be the cause of a Whirlpool refrigerator that leaks from the back behind the produce drawers. From the defrost system, water is transferred through this drain and into the drain pan underneath the refrigerator. Most Whirlpool refrigerator defrost drains are concealed behind a panel on the rear freezer wall. Given its location, the drain occasionally gets blocked by residual water droplets that freeze, causing leaks. Fortunately, a blocked defrost drain can frequently be fixed by a do-it-yourselfer.
To locate the drain precisely and learn how to remove the rear freezer panel, consult your user manual. Use a turkey baster to flush the drain with hot water and melt the obstruction once the drain is reachable.
