The new Pokémon games Scarlet and Violet have taken the franchise to an open world for the first time There is so much to explore in the Paldea region, including fun activities like picnics where you can craft sandwiches to eat. One of the recipes you can make is a tasty Ham Sandwich But to be able to craft this sandwich, you first need to track down the key ingredients. Let’s look at where to find all the items you need to make a Ham Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Locating Lettuce
Lettuce is the base green veggie used in a Ham Sandwich recipe. In Scarlet and Violet, you can obtain lettuce by either purchasing it or collecting it yourself. Here are some options:
-
Buy it in Mesagoza: At the deli counter in the Supermarket. This is the easiest option if you have sufficient funds.
-
Forage west of Los Platos Search the wilderness areas just west of Los Platos to find wild lettuce growing Look for the white flowers
-
Acquire as a sandwich ingredient: Some NPCs in Picnic Areas will offer you the needed lettuce. Check their inventories.
-
Receive from Cafe Trips: Ordering a sandwich from the Cafe may reward you with extra lettuce.
Lettuce can sometimes be tricky to find in the wild, so buying it from shops or collecting extras from Cafe orders is recommended. Stock up whenever you see it available!
Finding Tomatoes
Fresh tomato slices add color and flavor to a Ham Sandwich. Here is where you can find tomatoes:
-
Purchase at Markets: Buy tomatoes at fruit stalls in Los Platos, Levincia, or Mesagoza markets.
-
Forage at South Province (Area Two): Head south of Los Platos to find wild tomatoes growing in the groves here.
-
Obtain as a sandwich ingredient: Some chefs at Picnics will give you tomatoes when offering sandwich ingredients.
-
Plant and harvest your own: Buy tomato seeds and grow them at your Picnic Spot gardens.
Tomatoes are more plentiful than lettuce around Paldea. But planting your own ensures you’ll always have them handy for sandwich crafting.
Getting the Ham
No ham sandwich is complete without the ham! In Scarlet and Violet, you have a couple options for acquiring ham slices:
-
Purchase at Delis: Check the deli counters at Supermarkets in Mesagoza and Levincia. Stock rotates, so buy ham when you see it.
-
Receive as a sandwich ingredient: NPCs may offer you sliced ham directly as a sandwich ingredient at Picnics.
-
Trade for it: Some NPCs are willing to trade for ham if you don’t have it available to buy. Offer them creatures or items in exchange.
-
Bring from your inventory: If you already have ham in your bag, like from a previous sandwich, you can reuse it.
Ham seems to be rarer than other ingredients, so buy it whenever possible. And hold onto any extra to reuse later!
Finding Bread
What is a sandwich without the bread? Here’s where to get bread for your Ham Sandwich:
-
Purchase at Bakeries: Find bread rolls and loaves at bakery stalls in main city markets. Stock up when available!
-
Forage in Western Paldea: Search the golden grassy fields west of Mesagoza to find stray bread rolls on the ground.
-
Obtain from Café orders: Ordering any sandwich at a Café may get you bonus bread rolls. Reuse them for picnics!
-
Receive as an ingredient: Some chefs at Picnic Areas will offer bread directly as a sandwich ingredient.
-
Bring from your inventory: Reuse bread rolls in your bag if you have extras.
With many options to find or buy bread, getting the slices for your sandwich shouldn’t be difficult.
Crafting the Perfect Ham Sandwich
Once you have gathered lettuce, tomato, ham, and bread, head to a Picnic Area and approach a table. Interact with the table to access the sandwich crafting menu. Select the ingredients you want, and voila – you’ll have a fresh Ham Sandwich!
Part of the fun is tracking down ingredients yourself in the open world. But you can also buy whatever you are missing to complete the recipe. Get creative with different ingredient combinations. Add cheese or condiments! Customize to your liking.
Now you can chow down on a tasty Ham Sandwich as you continue your Paldean journey! Having the right ingredients on hand will let you craft this picnic staple anytime.
Every Ingredient & How to Get Them
There are many sandwich ingredients and condiments in Scarlet/Violet. Like Sandwich Recipes, more of these will be unlocked as players earn Gym Badges. Each ingredient and condiment has a “flavor” and corresponds to different Pokemon Types. As an example, avocados are a sweet and sour food that give you a Dragon-type boost when you put them in a sandwich.

There are four stores in Paldeas where you can get the best ingredients: Deli Cioso, Sure Cans, Artisan Bakery, and Aquiesta Supermarket. Most of these stores can be found in almost every major city in Paldea. Another way to get ingredients is to speak to picnicking NPCs in different Provinces. Theyll be standing next to a picnic table and their Pokemon. If you talk to them, you’ll get free ingredients and the chance to rest and heal your party’s HP and PP.

The Artisan Bakery chain are the only food stores that sell sandwich picks. These are required for sandwich making, too. Some picks are pretty pricey, so players might want to pick the Silver Pick for 40 poke and use the rest of their money to buy ingredients.

Rankings & Creative Mode
Every time a sandwich is made, its ranked on a scale of 1-3 Stars. The higher its rank, the more healing it does (it may heal PP and get rid of status ailments as well as HP), and the more friends it has. 3-Star Sandwiches usually have at least one Lv. 2 Meal Effect.
When players use a Recipe, they can see what kinds of Meal Effects will be made and how strong they are. To get a 3-star, players must make sure as little ingredients as possible fall off the sandwich. Following recipes makes it less likely that a sandwich will “topple,” since they only call for a few ingredients. Because of this, most of these sandwiches dont have Meal Effects that go beyond Lv. 1.
To get into Creative Mode if a player doesn’t want to use a Recipe, they can press the X button on the “Make a sandwich” menu. As its name indicates, Creative Mode allows players to choose up to 6 ingredients and 4 condiments. In Creative Mode, players can add any toppings or condiments they want, or they can use certain ingredients to get certain results. “A Tasty [Trainers Name] Original” sandwich is one that was made from scratch, and it gets one to three stars.
Though Creative Mode gives you more freedom than Recipes, it’s also easier to mess up a sandwich when there are too many of them. If too many fall off, the sandwich’s rank goes down, and the Meal Effects that were meant to happen may not happen or happen at a lower level.
