Should you add mashed potatoes to the turkey gobbler wrap?

One of the essential functions of my craft is testing various food combinations. I do the hard work, so you don’t have to.

So yeah, I experimented with adding mashed potatoes to my turkey gobbler wraps. Because mashed potatoes are delicious in every way, so how could it be bad? Good question. Glad you asked.

Well, it wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t good. I now understand why the original Trader Joe’s turkey gobbler wrap does not have mashed potatoes. I do not recommend them either. Here’s why:

  • The mashed potatoes have to be heated up. This eliminates the eating it cold option.
  • The mashed potatoes and tortilla just don’t go together. Your bite won’t be very good if it only consists of those ingredients for whatever reason. Not bad, again, but we want everything to work out well.
  • Snacks consisting solely of mashed potatoes and cranberries are also not very tasty.
  • More mashed potatoes equals less room for turkey and stuffing. Idk. You kind of don’t want them in there by the last bite.

How do you make the turkey gobbler wrap at home?

Super easy – it can be done. All you need are the ingredients listed above and some soft tortillas/wraps. I like to use Trader Joe’s version of plain white flour wraps, but you can use any kind of wrapper you prefer.

Before preparing your turkey gobbler wraps, if the wraps you like are prone to tearing, let them warm to room temperature.

Use room temperature or whipped cream cheese for the best results; cold cream cheese will cause a wrap to tear easily.

Get that cream cheese on there, then head over to the cranberries. I like to use whole berry cranberry sauce, but any leftover cranberry sauce will do.

After that, top with half a cup each of diced cooked turkey and your leftover holiday stuffing. Wrap it up like a chimichanga or a burrito, and you’re set!.

If enjoying now, just go ahead and do that! Heat it up or eat it cold. Take a bite and see how you like it.

If you’re planning to enjoy this meal later, here’s what I do:

  • wrap it up tightly in aluminum foil
  • Keep refrigerated for no more than 4 days (this largely depends on the turkey; if yours was 4 days old, then you should eat the wrap right away).
  • To reheat, take off the foil and microwave for 30 second bursts, flipping the food in between; this should take 60 to 90 seconds. Alternatively, heat for 4–5 minutes on “Warm” in a small toaster oven.
  • enjoy cold! I like them best this way

FAQ

Does Trader Joe’s sell Turkeys?

All our Turkeys are 100% fresh, meaning they are never frozen, and depending on which one you choose, they come with a variety of additional attributes. For instance, our All Natural Antibiotic Free Brined Fresh Young Turkeys (12-16 lbs. or 17-22 lbs.) are soaked in a sweet-savory brine that really amps up the flavor.
