Local grocery stores are advertising prices for some turkeys as low as 49 cents per pound.
Grand Rapids-based Meijer, a major Midwest grocery chain, recently revealed that, when an automatic mPerks coupon is used at checkout, customers can purchase the store brand of frozen turkeys for just 49 cents per pound.
According to Josh Potts, a Meijer poultry buyer, at 49 cents per pound, that puts turkey prices roughly where they were in the 1930s. Meijer expects to sell, they said, 1 million turkeys this holiday season.
“Our top priority is providing value and quality to our customers this holiday season, but we are aware that turkey prices have increased significantly in many places this year,” Potts stated.
