Cook Time
Start by giving the baby carrots 4 minutes on high in the microwave. Then, check to see if theyre fork tender. If not, cook for an additional minute or until you are satisfied.
Don’t overcook the carrots because they will continue to cook as they sit. Keep in mind that you can always add one or two minutes. Additionally, use caution when removing the cover because steam is hot.
How to Steam Carrots in the Microwave
Steamed carrots only require two ingredients: water and carrots. I typically add some butter and brown sugar to the carrots to make them even more delectable.
First, rinse the carrots under cold water. I still rinse them even though they were washed before being packed. Drying them off will cause steam to form, so avoid doing so.
After that, discard any carrots that have been split open by selecting them. Put the carrots in a bowl or small casserole dish that can go in the microwave.
I still add a little more water even though the carrots already have some on them. We like carrots with a little sauce. Then add a little butter and brown sugar.
You can leave out the butter and brown sugar in this dish to make it healthier. Or, you could omit the sugar and instead add butter.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap, a paper towel, a plate, or another microwave-safe covering before placing it in the microwave. Be sure to leave a small gap at the corner if you’re using plastic wrap.
Optional microwave steamer or microwave-safe trivet
Because they will be submerged in water, the carrots at the bottom of the bowl risk becoming slightly overcooked. They may be a little soft and appear a little wilted, but they will still taste delicious.
By using a microwave steamer, such as this Joie silicone vegetable steamer*, or a microwave trivet, you can prevent this by lifting the carrots out of the water before cooking them.
